I’m sure as web designers we all want to create original work, right?
…and taking inspiration from other peoples work is all very well and good, it’s something that most people will do in order to progress with their own ideas. But have things become too easy for people to literally pass off ready made design templates as their own?

When I was a kid I was madly obsessed with all things Porsche, so much so I wrote off to their UK HQ to see if I could ‘obtain’ some freebies. My grovelling paid off and I was sent a lovely brochure (the cover was a de-bossed silver affair) and some stickers (which I never stuck on anything). These fine specimens which we bring to you via the superb grain edit make that brochure look like a goddamn Skoda.
They don’t make them like they used to. Mores the pity.

I’ve recently been playing with some tilt shift photography techniques. It started out with an iPhone app called TiltShiftGen and another one called TiltShift both of which do a very good job at simulating the tiltshift photography technique.

This effect of creating fake miniature pictures can also be achieved in Photoshop. The best photos to work with are aerial view or distance shots.

Ok, the first music post…this is all very self indulgent as will be the case with subsequent music posts.
The much anticipated follow up to Grave Disorder is So Who’s Paranoid by The Damned and it does contain a handful of really excellent tracks one of which i’ve uploaded.
I went to see The King Blues last week at the Cockpit in Leeds and was mightily impressed by their politicized, energetic racket. Their musical references span the last 3 decades with Ska and Punk at the forefront. It’s hard not to sit up and listen to this lot’s refreshing take on the modern world.
The last Supergrass album, Diamond Hoo Ha is in my opinion one of their best. It’s raucous, melodic, intelligent, funky with a hint of their trademark wit…I see them as a dependable staple of UK indie rock.
The Damned – Under The Wheels
The King Blues- Save The World, Get The Girl
Supergrass- Bad Blood

Design blogs and portals are a great source of inspiration and also helpful in keeping you up to date with the latest happenings in the design industry. The following list is by no means comprehensive and we’d be interested to hear about any we’ve missed, but this will suffice to give a taster of what’s out there.

Finally our new website is live. It’s been a long time in design and development and there’s still some items outstanding but we feel that it’s fine for now to go live, and quite frankly it ain’t good for business without a live site!
There’s loads of new stuff in the portfolio section with lots of things still to be added but we’ll get round to that in time. We’ve set up this blog section (a Wordpress integration) which, if we get time to keep up with it, will be geared towards professionals in the industry with tutorials, giveaways and relevant articles. It will also serve as a place for the 9thwave team to impart some of our own personality, so you can expect some musical, artistic and general interest ramblings to be featured.
We hope you enjoy browsing the site and it’s always great to hear views about a new site so please feel free to drop us a line with any comments and feedback…or alternatively you can leave your comment below this post.
